Guo Jiayin
An amateur photographer, based wherever the light is good. I make photographs of landscapes, people and passing moments, keep a small journal of notes on seeing — and when the camera is away, I like to tinker with computers.
I came to photography the way most people do — with a camera I did not understand and places I wanted to keep. The first photographs were terrible. Somewhere in the middle of that failure, I started to pay attention properly: to light, to waiting, to the difference between looking and seeing.
What I shoot
Mostly landscape, with a soft spot for street and the quiet geometry of buildings. I work slowly, often with a single lens, and I edit harder than I shoot.
The gear
- Body: Hasselblad X2D II 100C
- Lens: XCD 90V — my favourite, and almost the only one I carry
No film, no nostalgia — just the camera and the light.

When the camera is away, I am usually at a computer — writing code, building small things, and enjoying the particular silence of a machine that does exactly what you ask of it.
